Two page typewritten memorandum from Isaiah DeQuincey Newman and Andrew A. Huggins, chairmen of the Concerned Clergy and Laity South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, to ministerial and lay members of the South Carolina Conference (1866) United Methodist Church, dated August 5, 1969. The memo announces a meeting to be held August 17, 1969 to discuss racism experienced at the last session of the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church; examples of racism at the conference included attempts to suppress freedom of speech, a lack of respect, an atmosphere of hostility, and the abuse and subversion of appointive powers of the episcopacy.
