- Description:
- Four pages of a handwritten sermon dated May 8, 1983, and titled "Duty and Woman." The sermon, delivered on Mother's Day, begins with a passage from the Biblical text Mark 5:19, and asserts that although women have not attained equality under the law, they have benefited from Christianity, and that women of Christian faith have demonstrated greatness. The sermon cites the work of Elizabeth Gurney Fry, Barbara Heck, Sojourner Truth, Frances Willard, and Mary McLeod Bethune as examples of women who successfully served Christianity.
