- A November 1984 oral history interview by William Gravely with African American journalist A.M. Rivera, who covered the court case concerning suspected members of the lynch mob which killed Willie Earle in 1947. The interview primarily consists of a detailed description of the racial tension witnessed by Rivera throughout the time of the trial, to include African American journalists being asked to sit in the segregated balcony instead of with white members of the press, being encouraged for safety reasons to not sit by an open window while typing reports, and the NAACP activist clergyman who hosted Rivera and other journalists carrying a pistol for defense purposes. Aspects of the court case itself were also discussed. A final transcript, summary notes, and correspondence are included with the interview.
