- An oral history interview by William Gravely with Hubert Newell, who attested to discovering cabdriver Thomas W. Brown bleeding on the ground some distance from his taxi in early 1947. Local African American resident Willie Earle was arrested and accused of the crime, but was lynched shortly thereafter. Newell describes finding the gravely injured Brown, and relates what he knew of the events which followed, including the trial for the suspected members of the lynching party which killed Earle.
