- An October 27, 1991 oral history interview by William Gravely with Max Steele, late Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and award-winning author. Steele had helped to host reporter Rebecca West when she visited Greenville to cover the May 1947 trial of suspected members of the lynching mob which killed Willie Earle. Steele described West's itinerary, reactions, and perceptions of the trial and those involved. Notes and correspondence are included with the interview.
