- Jerome and Nadine Boyd,both natives of Fairfield County, South Carolina, grew up in Winnsboro and Ridgeway, respectively. They attended Fairfield High School, Jerome graduating in 1969 and Nadine in 1971. Jerome became one of the first African-American real estate brokers in Fairfield County, in 1978. Nadine pursued a career in nursing. This oral history interview includes discussion of growing up in Winnsboro and Ridgeway, South Carolina, recollections of Fairfield High School, segregation, teacher support following school integration, cultural differences during integration, differences in student treatment due to race, Richard Winn Academy, their respective jobs after high school and college, their experiences with higher education, African-American business people in Fairfield County, and Nadine Boyd's experiences in nursing school.
