- Edwinda Goodman was born in Winnsboro, South Carolina, one of eight children. Her father owned a convenience store, and her mother was a homemaker. She attended public schools in Winnsboro: Gordon Elementary, Fairfield High School, and Winnsboro High School during integration. This oral history interview with Edwinda Goodman on October 26, 2017 includes discussion of growing up in Winnsboro, South Carolina during school integration, attending Fairfield High School and Winnsboro High School, classroom organization, growing up in a very close-knit community, becoming the head of the family at age eighteen, Maude Ross (guidance counselor at Fairfield H.S.), Queen Davis, race relations during integration and today, her immediate family's educations, memories of teachers who boarded at her home, the effect of integration on the teachers in Fairfield County, the ways in which youth culture has changed over the years, working as a CNA (Certified Nurse's Assistant), and the importance of education.
