Baker notes his influence in the Black community and hopes that his contribution to this collection of essays will further influence Black people to use public libraries. Baker states, "More useful information than every before is available in the nation's publicly-supported libraries--consumer information, ethnic information, health information, career information, recreational, educational, etc.--and librarians are better trained than ever to see that it gets to the people who have paid for it--but for whom it isn't paying off".
