- A civil rights march in downtown Columbia. A group of young civil rights activists were organized by the Youth Movement of the NAACP and marched from Bethel AME Church on Sumter Street up Main Street to the State House. Some activists also tried to purchase tickets at segregated movie theaters but were turned away. The marquee for the Fox Theater is visible in the background.
