- Rev. Fred D. Taylor of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference speaks to the media at the State House. The SCLC and others are demanding an investigation into the death of Mickey McClinton of Chester. McClinton, a Black youth, was killed after being hit by a car, an event which investigators declared an accident. But protestors believe he was murdered for dating a white woman. SCLC leaders and protestors also have other grievances about equality in employment, housing, public school meals, SLED investigations, and the use of bloodhounds.
