- Description:
- An armored tank and personnel from the South Carolina National Guard are stationed outside the South Carolina State College campus during civil rights protests in Orangeburg. Students from Claflin and South Carolina State colleges had recently been protesting an all-white bowling alley that operated near the SC State campus. Governor McNair called members of the State Law Enforcement Division, the S.C. National Guard and the S.C. Highway Patrol to protect the peace and enforce a city-wide curfew.
