- Description:
- Some of a group of around 50 Allen and Benedict students stage a sit-in, referred to as a "sit-down" in The State newspaper, at the lunch counter at Woolworth's on Main Street. The group left after speaking with reporters and being photographed, continuing on to S.H. Kress to stage a second sit-in. As soon as students arrived at Woolworth's, staff placed a "This Section Closed" sign on the lunch counter and ceased service to those sections.
