- Rev. Jesse Jackson, center in black shirt with button, walks with John R. Harper II, to the right of Jackson, and James L. Felder, to the right of Harper, along with around 1,000 people during a march in Edgefield County in support of extending certain provisions of the 1965 Voting Rights Act that are set to expire in 1982. The four-mile march, which began with a prayer service at Strom Thurmond High School and ends in the Edgefield Town Square, was sponsored by the Chicago-based Operation PUSH and the Edgefield branch of the NAACP which is headed by Nathaniel Jackson. A reporter taking notes can be seen to the left of Jackson.
