- Martha and Henry D. Monteith examine a crater created by a bomb explosion in their front yard. Dr. Monteith is the uncle of Henrie Monteith, a student scheduled to begin classes at the University of South Carolina in the fall. Miss Monteith will be one of the first African-American students at the University since Reconstruction. She resides near her uncle at 1307 Mason Road.
