- Description:
- Members of the Association of Red Shirts stand before the statue of Gen. Wade Hampton, III at the State House. The men are visiting to protest the sale of beach towels imprinted with a Confederate flag, as they believe the towels demean the flag. The Association of Red Shirts is a fraternal organization which aims to preserve segregation and honor the Confederacy. They are identified as, from right to left, Dorsey Gaston, George Melton, Calvin Stallings, Ernest Hope, Fred Gaston, and George Tinker. All are from York County.
