- Description:
- A letter to the editor of the *Florence Herald* by Florence American Legion Post No. 11, containing the full text of a resolution passed by the Legion Post on April 9 and published on April 23, 1964, said resolution opposing "the Civil Rights Bill in its every aspect," on the grounds that the "so-called Civil Rights Bill now pending in the Congress of the United States, in many of its provisions, wholly ignores and contravenes the Constitution of the United States, and destroys everything that we have believed, heretofore, to protect us from the complete and absolute power of a Central Government." The resolution further "expresses its gratitude to Gov. George C. Wallace for the noble effort he is making to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and Democracy bequeathed to us by the founding fathers."
