- Encyclopedia article about Jesse Hill, a prominent African American civil rights leader in Atlanta, who was the president and chief executive officer of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company from 1973 to 1992. He was the first African American to be elected president of a chamber of commerce in a major city and a member of the board of directors for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He attended Lincoln University in St. Louis and the University of Michigan where he received his MBA. In Atlanta, Hill volunteered for both the Urban League and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He was also a member of the Atlanta Committee for Cooperative Action.
The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
