- Oral history in which Joe Mitchell discusses his childhood, education, and race relations in Northampton County. He characterized the national and local National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) organizations and his participation in their activities. He also discusses his personal experience registering to vote, the importance of enfranchisement, and his subsequent voter registration efforts. Other topics include the role of black ministers, Jesse Jackson, and Ralph Johns in local civil rights activities and politics; his arrest for demonstrating in Greensboro; and the merits of the district system of city council elections.
