- This April 10, 1959 article in the Guilford College student newspaper, The Guilfordian, announces the creation of a scholarship fund to aid Vietnamese students studying in the United States so that they might bring valuable skills back to their country. Originally established in 1956, the American Friends of Vietnam's mission was to foster positive relations between both countries. At the time, many Asian and Asian-American students were enrolled at Guilford.
