- Description:
- This is a two-page letter dated April 17, 1973, from University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) Chancellor James Sharbrough Ferguson to UNCG Student Government Association (SGA) Vice President Cheryl Sosnik. In the letter, Ferguson expresses surprise at Sosnik's recent request for information about the faculty committee that investigated the Neo-Black Society controversy. Ferguson also mentions the forthcoming appeal by former SGA Vice President Jackie Coleman and states that further questions about evidence may be handled as part of the appeal process. On March 26, 1973, SGA had voted to reclassify (removed funding and recognition from) the Neo-Black Society. The SGA decision was overturned by university administration on the basis of faulty evidence and improper procedure by SGA, resulting in an eventual legal case that led to the Neo-Black Society's reinstatement as a recognized and funded organization.
