- This May 25, 1970 letter from J. Clay Madison to Chancellor Ferguson confirms Ferguson's participation in an upcoming conference on race relations sponsored by the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Ferguson agreed to serve on a white task force which would prepare a position paper to be presented at the conference which was held at North Carolina A&T State University in July, 1970. This letter names the others members of the white task force and outlines in some detail the nature of the position papers to be presented.
