- This May 9, 1969, article from The Carolinian, the student newspaper of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), is an analysis of press coverage related to the UNCG food service workers' strike of March 27-April 2, 1967 and the subsequent student boycott of the UNCG cafeteria. Nahikian suggests that coverage in the Greensboro Daily News and The Greensboro Record was biased and lacked depth, and she points out several examples that were purportedly slanted against the student viewpoint. The local press was also accused of abandoning the story before all its implications were revealed. Some twenty-five largely minority workers walked out based on specific complaints related to pay rates, working hours, overtime provisions, wage reviews, breaks, severance requirements, and dismissal requirements, and there was also a student boycott of the cafeteria. The strike was resolved with some concessions, and food service contractor ARA Slater retained its contract with UNCG. Several photographs of student demonstrations accompany the article.
