- This October 10, 1967, article from The Carolinian, the student newspaper of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) discusses comments by Dr. Fred Patton at a conference on black power held at UNCG November 1-3, 1967. Patton's comments address the concepts of violence and morality as seen by the Black Power movement, stating that those in power create morality and determine that the oppressed parties are "in the wrong." He notes that looting and burning are seen as immoral by those in power, or as a reclamation of power by those who lack it. The conference, sponsored by the UNCG Student Government Association featured numerous speakers including activist Howard Fuller, and generated considerable controversy statewide.
