- On March 8, 1974, recently integrated Grimsley High School in Greensboro was the site of a violent disturbance that ended with many students being sent home early. This April 14, 1974 Greensboro Daily News article provides details of what happened at Grimsley that day, as well as information on prior events that likely led to the March 8 disturbance. This article details interracial fights, a student's father being injured, incidents of students yelling racial slurs at each other, and numerous students being suspended. The reporter seems to conclude that these incidents originated with black students not being satisfied with their representation in student government and their dissappointement with student activities, such as school dances. This article was clipped and saved in a scrapbook on desegregation by Clarence "Curly" Harris, manager of the Greensboro Woolworth store at the time of the 1960 sit-ins that spawned lunch counter sit-ins across the South and rejuvenated the civil rights movement.
