- In this November 5, 1979, article from the Greensboro Daily News, staff writer William March reports on the efforts by the Communist Workers Party (CWP), then known as the Workers Viewpoint Organization (WVO), to organize workers at Cone Mills plants in North Carolina prior to the November 3, 1979, shootings in Greensboro in which five members of the CWP were killed at an anti-Klan rally. Many of the victims had been employed by Cone Mills and had been involved in organizing there. Many CWP/WVO members had been fired by Cone for falsifying their job applications. The article notes that some CWP/WVO members had accused Cone of "hiring assassins" in connection with the shootings.
