- Description:
- This case file consists of filings from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia Richmond Division, Charles C. Green, et al. v. County School Board of New Kent County, et al. After the United States Supreme Court's mandate in the landmark civil rights case Brown v. Board of Education, also known as Brown II, which ruled that the "separate but equal" doctrine was unconstitutional, many school districts implemented "freedom of choice" plans. Several students and parents from the New Kent County School District brought this case against the school district, arguing that the "freedom of choice" plan did not adequately integrate the school system. The District Court upheld the "freedom of choice" plan in this case.
