- Description:
- Records collected by the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission for the November 1963 monthly commission meeting. The file contains a summary report from director Erle Johnston about the commissions activities for the month. Johnston assures the committee that John Frazier will not attend the University of Southern Mississippi and says he will provide further details of the arrangement in person. He mentions the commissions work to keep to sons of an African American mother out of white schools in Jasper County and copies of Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee documents obtained by the Mississippi Highway Patrol following an accident. He also reports that Reverend M. L. Young of the Mutual Association of Colored People South is planning on taking a petition signed by 7,000 African Americans supporting a continuation of the separate but equal policy to Washington, D.C. The file also contains an annual report of the Association. The file contains budgetary information for the Sovereignty Commission and letters relating to the Coordinating Committee for Fundamental American Freedoms, the Washington, D.C. office fighting proposed Civil Rights legislation.
