- Records collected by the director of the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission. The file includes letters to and from Erle Johnston and memorandums about commission investigations and work. Topics covered in the file include the boycott in Woodville, Mississippi, and a request that the local newspaper use courtesy titles when writing about African Americans; responding to a request to investigate if officials from the Health, Education, and Welfare department have been harassing African Americans; a letter to a newspaper in Fitchburg, Massachusetts refuting claims made in a January 28 article; recommendations supporting the Mississippi Action for Progress Headstart program; an investigation in Natchez to identify members of outside organizations; a report of a meeting in Hinds County planning for an upcoming election; and a request from the attorney general to clarify if the Sovereignty Commission can engage in public relations campaigns.
