On postcard verso: Unveiled on January 16, 1986, this statue of the nation's most famous civil rights martyr stands in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C. Created by sculptor John Wilson of Boston, it is the first statue of an African descendant to be placed in the U.S. Capitol. On November 2, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed Public Law 98-144, making the third Monday in January of each year a federal holiday, beginning in 1986, in honor of Dr. King, who was assassinated on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, TN. - Metadata URL:
