- Barbara Berger was born in Chicago and grew up in north suburban Evanston, Illinois. She always had an interest in politics and the political process. In 1968, she had just graduated from the University of Illinois and secured a summer job arranging transportation for convention delegates. Most of Ms. Berger's recollections center on the people she met and the pride she felt about the work she did to make sure the Democratic National Convention (DNC) ran smoothly. Her time was spent at the International Amphitheatre and in or near the Conrad Hilton Hotel. While she sympathized with protestors, she felt that both they and the police hindered the convention. She remained politically active after the DNC.
