- Description:
- The daughter of Pakistani immigrants Bushra Amiwala (b.1997) grew up in Chicago and Skokie, Illinois. In order to challenge her biases and gain political experience, Amiwala became a field operative for then-U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL.) while a student at DePaul University. Members of the Kirk campaign later convinced her to run for the Cook County Board of Commissioners. Since then, she was recognized for activism by various magazines including Glamour, Teen Vogue, and Seventeen.
