- Serpil Caputlu was born in Instanbul, Turkey, in 1980. She studied physics at Yildiz Technical University. By chance, Serpil met her future husband online while he was studying in the United States. After meeting in person, they decided to move to Chicago. She earned a master's degree in mathematics while also working as a babysitter. Since then, She became a tenured professor at Triton College in west suburban River Grove, Illinois.
