- In 1992, Ephraim Assefa's family fled war in Ethiopia for a refugee camp in Kenya. Assefa relocated to Chicago in 2006, and an American family helped him settle in the city. From 2012 onward, Assefa worked at the Ethiopian Community Association of Chicago.
