- Octavian Cojan, born in Romania in 1936, grew up during World War II. He and his wife defected from Romania in 1973. Cojan became an entrepreneur in Chicago, starting many businesses that catered to Romanian immigrants and the Romanian community in Chicago. He was also active in Romanian heritage organizations and efforts to improve cooperation between Chicago city government and the Romanian community.
