- A portrait of Avon Williams, who became involved in the Tennessee State University/University of Tennessee at Nashville merger suit as attorney for the plaintiff interveners and successfully persuaded the court that UT Nashville be merged into Tennessee State University. "This was a major landmark decision because it was the first time in the history of the nation that a major white institution was absorbed by a major black institution." On April 16, 1986 Tennessee State University's downtown campus became known as the Avon Williams Campus.
