- This audio recording features the Phi Beta Lambda Assembly. This audio recording opens with an introduction of Dr. Irving McPhail, President of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, Inc (NACME). At 00:06:57, Dr. McPhail delivers his address, in which he reflects on Black Americans' participation rate in graduate programs, the connection and role of education in Black liberation, and the impact that higher education has on the power structure in society. Dr. McPhail alludes to scholars such as Mary McLeod Bethune, W.E.B. DuBois, Benjamin E. Mays, and Martin Luther King, Jr. to encourage students to use their formal education, self-education, and Black experience as a catalyst for Black liberation.
