Aukofer, a Milwaukee native, began covering civil rights for the Milwaukee Journal in 1964, thus reporting most of the 1967 open housing marches. He discusses racism in past and present Milwaukee, his relationship with and impressions of Father Groppi, his experiences in reporting the marches, the Youth Council's use of the media during the protests, the roles of Mayor Meier and police chief Breier, the success of the marches, and current journalism. - Metadata URL:
