- Shortly after the merger in 1955, the AFL-CIO set up a Civil Rights Department, which was designed to investigate various fields of civil rights activity.
The Records, 1963-1972, of the Civil Rights Department of the AFL-CIO Southern Region consist primarily of printed material and correspondence of private groups, government commissions, and committees from organized labor, working in the various fields of civil rights activity--equal and open housing, school desegregation, human relations, and fair and equal employment opportunities.
Consists of correspondence, meeting minutes, and other documents of the American Friends Service Committee's Atlanta Community Relations Program. Topics include school integration, fair housing and affordable housing in Atlanta, and the 1968 Poor People's Campaign. - Metadata URL:
