- Description:
- In this interview, Paul Benson describes his Army service in a Quartermaster Corps in Europe during World War II. As a white officer commanding a black battalion, he was given responsibilities such as keeping supply and communications lines open during the Normandy invasion. He describes his basic and quartermaster's training. He describes his relationships with his enlisted men. Their first task after arriving in Europe was to offload wounded soldiers from D-Day from the Liberty ships which brought them back to England. Shortly after D-Day, they arrived in France. He recalls that they did "every odd job in the Army."
