Carl Rowan (1925-2000) served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State under John F. Kennedy. In 1963, he became the United States Ambassador to Finland. He then served as the Director of the United States Information Agency from 1964 to 1965. He is best known, however, as a journalist. He wrote a syndicated column for the Chicago Sun-Times from 1966 to 1998. - Local Identifier:
