Richard “Dick” Claxton Gregory (1932- ) was a comedian who used his celebrity to advance civil rights causes. He was a member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) Board of Directors and was a close ally of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In 1968, Gregory ran for president of the United States on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket. - Metadata URL:
