- Description:
- View of United States Representative Andrew Young (far right) during a visit to a school in Greene County, Alabama, to urge Black voters to register. This was the same county where Young was instrumental in challenging an election in the late 1960s that was invalidated by the United States Supreme Court, resulting in a special election that saw African Americans elected to several prominent positions in the county government for the first time.

Mr. Young was executive director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and an ally of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1973-1976, and was Ambassador to the United Nations in the administration of President Jimmy Carter.
