- All four Klansmen who participated in the assault that nearly killed Robert Hayling and his 3 NAACP companions were found innocent of all charges in a St. Johns County court. Klansmen from out of town were observed in court greeting local lawmen by first name and giving the secret Klan "southpaw fishtail wiggle" handshake.
