- Description:
- A march in downtown St. Augustine turned violent. Attacks were made using fists, beating people to the ground before police intervened and marchers retreated. Martin Luther King arrived in St. Augustine and held a press conference and announced that a demonstration would take place that night as well as another on June 11. He was not happy with the handling of demonstrations and urged federal leaders to withdraw funds from the Quadricentennial Celebration because of segregated conditions.
