The series will "attempt to illustrate the incredible beauty and somtime invisible journey of the Black experience in America" according to Outterbridge, and will make use of discarded materials. Outterbridge is a Los Angeles-based painter, sculptor, and installation artist who was born in Greenville, North Carolina. Identity and culture are major themes in his work, and Outterbridge is known for works that feature found and discarded objects.
