- Description:
- The Clifford "Baldy" Baldowski cartoon depicts the State Capitol lying on a hospital stretcher saying "Nobody should hav' to go through this ever [sic] year." Legislators dressed as doctors surround him. "Doctor Oliver Bateman" is hanging from the overhead light saying "Could I interest you in a brand new, handy dandy, cure-all?" George L. Smith is sharpening knives labeled "Constitutional revisions" and saying "This time I thought we might work you over from head to foot!" Rep. Jones is holding the "Code of Ethics" and saying "A patient has to have faith in his doctor-- sometime!" Sen. Holloway, labeled "Tax Revision," is rolling the stretcher and saying "I'm here strictly for business reasons." Carl Sanders and James Bentley are under the rug. Sanders is saying "Shhh-- It's not ethical to claim you're th' best doctor around-- yet!" Lester Maddox is holding a needle labeled "4% Sales Tax" and saying "Never mind, just hold 'em down long enough for this hypo!" A man labeled "Hold the Line" is saying I don't care what ails him, I ain't gonna pay for it." George T. Smith is pushing the stretcher and saying "The worst part about it will be the (appropriations) bill-- ($125,000,000)-- Honest!"
