- The Clifford "Baldy" Baldowski cartoon depicts the chambers of Congress which are empty except for Howard Smith, Harry Byrd, and Wilbur Mills, who are hiding under the front row of seats. They are dressed like Civil War soldiers and are holding muskets. They are labeled "status-quo." John F. Kennedy, who pokes his head in through the back door, is labeled "something new." The back wall of the chamber says "88th Congress".
