- The Clifford Baldowski cartoon depicts a diagram showing Richard Nixon cutting the string between a bar of "Gold" and a "U.S. Dollar." The dollar then goes through the steps of the machine resulting in Mikio Mizuta floating a "Yen." Each step is labeled and described. "U.S. President Nixon (A) announces new economic policies cutting (B) historic ties with gold (C) to U.S. dollar (E) which floats, unbalancing abstract economic theory mobile (F) tipping off (G) currencies (H)-- already in hot hot water (I), juggling money markets (J), causing Japan's Finance Minister Mikio Mizuta (K) involuntarily to float yen (M)--" "(D) was lost in devaluation."
