- The Clifford Baldowski cartoon depicts a photo album page titled "my first year in the Senate" with four pictures on it. In the first, Lester Maddox is a child looking at a puppy in a box labeled "Public respect." In the next, Maddox is holding the dog that is now kissing his nose. Maddox is swinging the howling puppy around by the tail in the third picture. In the last one, he is holding the dog under the pot.
