The protests were in response to North Carolina's plan to develop a landfill in Warren County to dump Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB), a dangerous industrial chemical. Information from page 34 of the 30th Annual SCLC Convention Souvenir Journal (auc.199.07321): "Toxic Waste -- Rev. Albert E.
